How You Know That
Your Car's Engine Needs Repair

- Check engine light - Too many people ignore the ever important check engine light. Many times when the check engine light illuminates indicates a very small problem is present. This small problem however, if left unchecked could mean big trouble sometime in the future.
- Knocking noise - A knocking noise that comes from under the hood and rises and falls in speed with engine RPMs is most likely the sign of a failing engine bearing. Engine bearings are what support the movement of moving engine parts, and should it seize, your car's engine will suffer major damage.
- Increased exhaust smoke - If you notice more smoke coming out of your car's tailpipe than usual, a trip to the auto shop should be scheduled. You can often tell what sort of problem is occurring judging by the color of the smoke. Blue smoke means oil is burning, while white exhaust is a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber. Black smoke on the other hand is a sign of too much fuel being used.
- Decreased Performance - Have you noticed a drop in fuel efficiency? Is it difficult to get your car up to speed? Does your car require warm up time? These are all issues that should be addressed as soon as they become present. Many times a tune up can fix these types of problems.
- Rough Idle - If your vehicle seems to have a hard time staying on when stopped at a red light or elsewhere, you'll want to visit the auto shop. This may indicate a fuel delivery problem, but any number of issues, big and small, can cause this type of trouble.
